Background
The Stitching Room is a tailoring atelier in Chiswick, West London — made-to-measure, bridal alterations and restorations, with over 35 years in the trade. The client came to us with a 12-year-old WordPress site from 2012: a dated look, poor performance and the usual set of plugins that needed constant updating.
The goal: a fresh, elegant look in keeping with the atelier’s premium positioning, plus a full migration from WordPress to Astro — a light, static stack with no plugins and no database.
The solution
We designed the site from scratch in an aesthetic tailored to the trade and built it on static Astro 5 with the content held in Markdown.
What we delivered:
- A complete site structure — home page, services, gallery, FAQ and a contact form
- The full 2026 SEO kit — schema.org, sitemap, canonical tags, Open Graph and 301 redirects from the old WordPress URLs
- Image optimisation (WebP) and Core Web Vitals
- Content editing in Markdown — no admin panel and no database
The result
- A static site on light hosting — no admin panel, no database and none of the attacks that typically target WordPress
- No monthly plugin updates — we update the framework itself once every 6–12 months
- Full control over SEO — schema, headings and redirects set up deliberately around the keyword plan
- The client edits the content themselves in Markdown — about 10 minutes to learn instead of navigating an admin panel
- PageSpeed and Core Web Vitals figures will be added once traffic settles and the new URLs are indexed
